FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A few of the questions people often ask before getting started. If yours isn't here, you're warmly welcome to get in touch.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
The easiest way to begin is to book a free 15-minute discovery call through the contact page. It is a relaxed, no-obligation conversation where you can share a little about what is on your mind and ask any questions. If it feels like a good fit, we can arrange a first session together. There is no diagnosis or referral needed to start.
What happens in the free 15-minute discovery call?
The discovery call is a free, relaxed 15-minute conversation with no obligation. It is a chance for us to say hello, for you to describe what you are hoping for, and for you to get a feel for how I work. You are welcome to ask anything, including about fees and practical details. If it feels right, we can plan a first session from there.
What can I expect in a first session?
A first session lasts around 60 minutes and takes place online via video. We take our time to get to know each other and to explore what has brought you here and what you would like to focus on. There is no pressure to have everything figured out. My aim is for you to feel heard, safe, and comfortable to move at your own pace.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
Counselling can be a good fit if you would value a warm, confidential space to reflect, gain clarity, or navigate something that feels difficult. The free discovery call is designed exactly for this question, so you can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. There is no need to decide in advance. You are always welcome to take your time.
Do I need a specific reason to start counselling?
Not at all. Some people arrive with a clear concern, while others simply feel that something is out of balance or want space to think things through. Any reason that matters to you is reason enough. You are welcome just as you are.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number, as everyone's needs and goals are different. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others value a longer, ongoing space over time. We can talk about what feels right for you and review it together as we go. You remain in charge of the pace and the length of our work.
How often would we meet?
The rhythm is something we shape together to suit you. Many people begin with weekly or fortnightly sessions and adjust from there as needs change. All sessions are online and arranged by appointment. We can find a frequency that feels supportive and sustainable for you.
Understanding Counselling
What is counselling?
Counselling is a supportive, confidential conversation that gives you space to reflect, gain clarity, and explore what matters to you. Working systemically and integratively, I look at you within the wider context of your relationships and life, drawing on approaches that fit your situation. It is a collaborative, non-clinical process focused on your own resources and goals. My role is to accompany you with warmth and without judgement.
What's the difference between counselling, psychotherapy, and coaching?
These are distinct services, and it helps to understand how they differ. Psychotherapy and clinical treatment for mental health conditions are provided by other, appropriately qualified professionals, and coaching tends to focus on specific goals or performance. What I offer is counselling: a non-clinical, reflective space to explore your experience, find clarity, and draw on your own strengths. You can read a fuller comparison of counselling, therapy, and coaching if it helps. If you are looking for psychotherapy or medical care, I am happy to point you toward the right kind of support.
Is counselling the same as therapy?
No. Counselling is a non-clinical, supportive process, and it is not psychotherapy or medical treatment. It does not involve diagnosis and is not aimed at treating mental health conditions, which are the domain of other qualified professionals. My work offers a warm, reflective space to explore your experience and move toward greater clarity. If you need clinical care, I will gladly help you find the right support.
What kinds of things can counselling help with?
Many people come to explore stress, life transitions, relationships, self-worth, or a sense of feeling stuck or out of balance. Counselling offers space to reflect, understand yourself more fully, and reconnect with your own resources. It is a place for clarity and growth rather than a clinical service. If you are unsure whether your situation fits, the discovery call is a good place to ask.
Will you diagnose me?
No. Counselling is a non-clinical service, so I do not provide any diagnosis or medical assessment. My focus is on listening, understanding, and supporting you as a whole person, not on labels or conditions. Diagnosis belongs to other qualified health professionals. If that is something you need, I am happy to help point you in the right direction.
Is what we talk about confidential?
Yes. Everything we discuss is treated as confidential, and creating a safe, private space is central to how I work. This confidentiality is here so that you can speak openly and at your own pace. If you ever have questions about how confidentiality works, you are very welcome to ask.
Is counselling a replacement for medical or psychological care?
No. Counselling is a non-clinical, supportive service and is not a substitute for medical or psychological care, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are experiencing a mental or physical health condition, please seek support from a qualified doctor or other appropriate professional. Counselling can sit alongside such care, but it does not replace it. If you are ever in crisis or need urgent help, please contact emergency services or a crisis line.
Can counselling help even if I'm not in crisis?
Yes, absolutely. You do not need to be in crisis or at a low point to benefit from counselling. Many people value a reflective space to grow, gain clarity, strengthen relationships, or simply understand themselves better. Wherever you are in life, you are welcome.
Practical & Logistics
Are sessions online or in person?
All sessions take place online via video, which makes it easy to meet wherever you are. This means we can work together comfortably from your own space, and I welcome clients internationally. Sessions are arranged by appointment. All you need is a private spot and a stable internet connection.
How does online counselling work?
We meet by secure video call at a time we arrange together. Once your session is booked, you will receive the details you need to join from a private, comfortable space of your own. Many people find that online counselling feels just as warm and personal as meeting in the same room. You can read more about how online counselling works, and if you have any questions about the setup, we can go through them in the discovery call.
What languages do you offer?
I offer counselling in both English and German. You are welcome to choose whichever language feels most natural and comfortable for you. If it helps, we can even move between the two.
How long is a session?
Individual sessions last around 60 minutes. Couples sessions are a little longer, usually between 60 and 120 minutes, to give you both enough space. We can talk about what suits you best when we arrange your appointment.
Which time zones do you work across?
I am based in Central European Time and work with clients internationally, so scheduling across time zones is arranged by mutual agreement. We will simply find an appointment time that works well for both of us. Please feel free to mention your time zone when you get in touch.
How do I book, reschedule, or cancel?
Booking, rescheduling, and cancelling are all arranged via the contact form or by email. Just get in touch and we will find a time together, or adjust an existing appointment if your plans change. If you ever need to cancel, as much notice as possible is always appreciated. We agree the practical details together so everything feels clear and comfortable.
What's your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know via the contact form or email, and as much notice as possible is greatly appreciated. I understand that life is unpredictable, so we agree the details together rather than applying rigid rules. The aim is to keep things fair and workable for both of us. You are always welcome to ask about this in the discovery call.
How do sessions work financially?
Sessions are self-pay. The fee is agreed with you individually, and we talk it through in the free 15-minute discovery call — or by message via the contact page, whichever you prefer. Sessions are not billed to, and are not reimbursed by, statutory or private health insurance. That keeps the work flexible and discreet, with no insurance paperwork and no reporting requirements.
Are sessions covered by health insurance / Krankenkasse?
Sessions are self-pay and are not reimbursed by statutory or private health insurance such as the Krankenkasse. Because counselling is a non-clinical service, there is no diagnosis, referral, or insurance paperwork involved, which keeps things simple and private. You are welcome to ask about fees in the free discovery call or via the contact page. I am always happy to explain how everything works.
Do you offer flexible or evening times?
I do my best to be flexible and to find appointment times that fit around your life, including across different time zones. All sessions are online and arranged by appointment, so we have room to find something that works for you. The best thing is to let me know what suits you when you get in touch. We will do our best to find a good time together.
For Individuals
What challenges do you support individuals with?
I support people navigating stress, overwhelm and burnout, life transitions, relationships, questions of identity and direction, the realities of international life, and personal growth. Many of my clients are high-functioning people who look like they have it all together but feel stretched thin underneath. Counselling gives you a calm, confidential space to slow down, make sense of what you are carrying, and move forward with more clarity.
Can counselling help with burnout and overwhelm?
Yes. Feeling constantly depleted, running on empty, or unable to switch off is something many capable people experience, and it is worth taking seriously. In counselling we gently explore what is draining you, what your overwhelm is telling you, and how to rebuild your energy and boundaries. The aim is to help you feel more grounded, resourced, and in tune with what matters to you.
I'm high-functioning but exhausted — is this for me?
Absolutely. Many people who come to me are successful and dependable on the outside while feeling tired, stretched, or disconnected within. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. This is a space where you can set down the pressure to keep performing and focus on your own wellbeing for a change.
Can counselling help with a major life transition?
Yes. Big changes such as a new role, a move abroad, becoming a parent, the end of a relationship, or an uncertain next chapter can leave you feeling unsettled even when the change is a positive one. Counselling offers steady support while you find your footing and reconnect with your own direction. Together we make room to reflect, adjust, and step forward at a pace that feels right for you.
Can counselling help me with identity and direction?
Yes. Questions like who am I now, what do I really want, and where do I belong come up often, especially during transitions or after years of putting others first. Counselling gives you space to explore these questions honestly and without pressure. My aim is to help you reconnect with your own values and sense of direction so your choices feel more like your own.
Can counselling help me manage stress?
Yes. When stress builds up over time it can affect how you sleep, think, relate to others, and feel day to day. In counselling we look at what is fuelling your stress and explore practical, sustainable ways to steady yourself. Over time many clients find they feel calmer, clearer, and more able to respond to life rather than simply react to it.
For Couples
How does couples counselling work?
Couples counselling takes place online by video, so you can meet from wherever you are. Sessions offer a calm, balanced space where both of you can speak openly and feel heard, with me supporting the conversation between you. We look at the patterns in your relationship and work towards better understanding, connection, and communication — you can read more about navigating distance and reconnecting as a couple. Everything happens at a pace that feels safe and respectful for you both.
Do both partners need to attend?
Both partners usually attend together, since much of the value comes from the conversation that unfolds between you. That said, it is completely fine for one partner to begin alone if the other is not ready yet or is unavailable for a session. Starting on your own can still bring helpful insight and often opens the door to working together later.
What can couples counselling help with?
Couples counselling can help with communication difficulties, emotional distance, recurring conflict, and rebuilding closeness and reconnection. It is also valuable during shared transitions such as relocation, new family stages, or navigating life across cultures and time zones. Whatever you are facing, the aim is to help you understand each other better and feel more like a team again.
How long are couples sessions?
Couples sessions usually run between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on what suits you and what you want to work on. The longer format can give a couple more room to explore a topic fully without feeling rushed. We can agree on the right length together, and it can be adjusted as we go.
Can we attend from different countries or time zones?
Yes. Because sessions take place online, the two of you can join from different locations or time zones and still meet together in the same virtual room. This works well for partners who travel, live apart for a time, or are relocating. I work across time zones by arrangement, based in Central European Time, so we can find a slot that works for you both.
Is couples counselling only for relationships in crisis?
No. Couples counselling is not only for relationships that are struggling. Many couples come to strengthen an already good relationship, deepen their connection, or navigate a shared transition together. It can be a caring, proactive way to invest in your relationship at any stage.
International & Expat Life
Do you work with expats and internationals?
Yes. Supporting internationals and expats is at the heart of my work, and I offer sessions in both English and German. I understand the particular mix of opportunity and pressure that comes with building a life away from home. Whether you are newly arrived, long settled, or somewhere in between, you are very welcome here.
Can we work together if I live in another country?
Yes. All sessions take place online by video, so we can work together wherever you are in the world. I see clients internationally and work across time zones by arrangement, based in Central European Time. All you need is a private space and a stable connection.
Do you understand the challenges of living between cultures?
Yes. Living between cultures can bring a quiet sense of not fully belonging anywhere, alongside questions of identity, language, and home. Many internationals carry this experience without ever putting words to it. In counselling we can explore what living between worlds means for you and help you feel more settled and at home in yourself.
Can you help with relocation stress?
Yes. Relocating can be exciting and exhausting at the same time, bringing practical upheaval, loss of familiar support, and a lot of adjustment all at once. Counselling offers steady support while you find your footing in a new place. Together we can ease the overwhelm and help you reconnect with a sense of stability and direction.
Do you work with cross-cultural couples?
Yes. Cross-cultural couples often navigate differences in language, family expectations, and ideas of home, which can add richness as well as friction to a relationship. I work with couples in both English and German and can support you across different locations and time zones online. My aim is to help you understand each other more deeply and build a shared way of living that honours both of you.
Approach & Methods
What is your overall approach?
My work is integrative and context-oriented, which means I draw on several ways of working rather than following one fixed method. I bring together Systemic Counselling, Somatic Awareness, Parts Work and Mindfulness-Based Practice, and I shape our sessions around you as a person. The aim is always to meet you where you are and to work in a way that feels supportive and grounded.
Do you follow one method or several?
Several. Rather than applying a single technique, I weave together different approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you and your situation. This lets me stay flexible and responsive, so our work can adapt as your needs change over time.
What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented way of working with stress and overwhelming experiences. It gently supports the nervous system toward greater regulation and a sense of grounding. By noticing what is happening in the body, we can create more ease, steadiness and choice. For a fuller introduction, you can read what Somatic Experiencing is and how it helps with stress.
What is systemic counselling?
Systemic counselling explores the relational and contextual patterns in your life and how they shape your experience. It looks at the connections between you and the people and environments around you, rather than viewing anything in isolation. This wider view often brings fresh understanding and new possibilities.
What is parts work?
Parts work is a way of exploring the different parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion. We make space for the various inner voices and reactions you may carry, and meet them with kindness rather than judgement. This can help you feel more at ease with yourself and more whole.
How do you use mindfulness?
I draw on Mindfulness-Based Practice to help you develop awareness of your thoughts and reactivity. As that awareness grows, it creates a little more space and, with it, more choice in how you respond. Over time this can bring a calmer, steadier relationship with everyday life.
Weekly Wellbeing Community
What is the Weekly Wellbeing Community?
The Weekly Wellbeing Community is a calm weekly online group for mindfulness, stress reduction and community connection. It is a gentle, welcoming space to pause, breathe and reconnect alongside others. You are warmly invited to come as you are.
When does it meet?
The group meets every Tuesday from 20:30 to 21:30. It takes place online via Teams, so you can join comfortably from wherever you are.
How do I join?
To join, simply get in touch through the contact page and I will send you the link. I would be glad to welcome you into the group.
What's the format, and is it free?
It is a relaxed weekly online session held in English via Teams, focused on mindfulness, stress reduction and connecting with others. For current details, including anything about joining, please get in touch via the contact page and I will happily share what you need to know.
Do I need any experience with mindfulness?
Not at all. No experience is needed, and the group is open to complete beginners as well as those who already have a practice. You are welcome exactly as you are.
For Organisations
Do you work with companies?
Yes. I work with companies and institutions in Germany and Switzerland, both online and on-site. My focus is on wellbeing at work, supporting people and teams to feel steadier, more resourced and more connected.
What formats do you offer for organisations?
I offer keynote talks of 30 to 60 minutes, workshops and seminars of 2 to 4 hours, in-depth trainings of 1 to 3 days, and structured 8-week programmes. Alongside these, I provide confidential employee counselling and leadership counselling as part of an employee assistance programme. We can shape the right format together to suit your organisation.
Can you deliver a one-off workshop or keynote?
Yes. One-off keynotes and workshops are very welcome, as are longer programmes if you would like something more in-depth. We can start with a single session and build from there if it feels useful.
Do you offer employee or leadership support (EAP)?
Yes. As part of an employee assistance programme, I offer confidential employee counselling and leadership counselling. This gives your people a supportive, private space to talk things through and find steadier footing.
Are organisational sessions online or on-site?
Both. I work with organisations online or on-site, whichever suits you best. We can choose the setting that fits your team, your location and the format you have in mind.
What topics do you cover for teams?
Topics include stress and burnout prevention, emotional regulation, mindfulness at work, communication and team dynamics, positive psychology, resilience and change, and nervous system regulation. These support corporate mental health and everyday wellbeing across a team. We can tailor the focus to what your people most need.
